Furan Resin Sand Casting Process Steps

1. Sand Preparation: Mix silica sand with resin binder and catalyst to facilitate the hardening reaction.
2. Molding: Fill the resin-sand mixture into the sandbox after assembling the pattern (typically made of wood or aluminum). Ensure even filling of the resin sand; uneven packing will result in inconsistent mold strength.
3. Hardening (Curing): This is a critical stage in furan resin sand casting. The resin binder undergoes chemical curing inside the mold, hardening the sand to form a mold with sufficient strength. The curing time depends on the resin characteristics and casting requirements, and it is controlled with proper temperature and time parameters.
4. Pattern Removal: Once fully cured, take out the pattern to form the cavity for the target casting.
5. Metal Pouring: Pour molten metal into the prepared mold cavity.
6. Cooling & Post-processing: After the metal cools down and solidifies, break the sand box to release the raw casting. Subsequent operations include trimming, sandblasting and precision machining as required by technical drawings.
