Forged Hydraulic Cylinder Rod Eye | Custom Non-Standard Hydraulic Forged Components

1. Available Forging Materials

We produce forged hydraulic rod eyes with mainstream hydraulic-grade forging steels to match global industry standards: AISI 4140 alloy steel, AISI 8630 alloy steel, ASTM A519 1026 carbon steel, 20# steel, ASTM A572 Gr.50/Gr.65 HSLA steel, 20CrMnTi, 42CrMo, 35CrMo, 40Cr, 34CrNiMo6, 30CrMoV9, plus ductile iron QT450-12 / ASTM A536 65-45-12 for cast alternative options. Our engineering team offers professional equivalent material replacement solutions to balance mechanical performance and procurement cost per your working pressure, load and drawing specifications, all materials come with official material test report (MTR).

2. Product Application

This forged rod eye is an indispensable core hydraulic cylinder component, widely fitted onto hydraulic cylinders for construction machinery, agricultural equipment, mining machinery, forklift and industrial hydraulic systems. It acts as hinged connection joint between cylinder body and equipment chassis, enduring cyclic tension, compression, shock load and high hydraulic pressure in rigorous working environments.

3. Processing Technology

Our core production adopts hot closed-die forging technology for high-performance hydraulic forged parts:
  1. Solid steel bar raw material is heated to precise forging temperature, precision die forging reforms internal metal grain structure along component load path, fully eliminates inner shrinkage hole, porosity and loose grain defects common in sand casting. Finished forged blank owns dense metallurgical texture, outstanding tensile strength, fatigue resistance and impact toughness, perfectly suited for heavy-duty high-pressure hydraulic service.
  2. Follow-up customized heat treatment including quenching & tempering, normalizing to adjust hardness and mechanical property, complying with AISI & ASTM international steel standards for 4140 /8630 alloy steel forgings.
  3. Complete in-house CNC precision machining for inner bore, end face, threaded hole to achieve tight tolerance, guarantee seamless assembly with hydraulic cylinder assemblies.

    Beyond standard forging specifications, our foundry specializes in custom non-standard forged hydraulic parts developed strictly from customer drawings or physical samples.

Main testing equipment: Spectral analyzer, tensile testing machine, impact testing machine, coordinate measuring instrument, roughness meter, digital Brinell hardness tester, chemical analysis, magnetic particle flaw detector, metallographic analyzer and other testing equipment.

It is commonly used for high-strength components like hydraulic cylinder yokes, connecting rods, gears. The key steps in drop forging process are as follows:

Material Selection Choose the appropriate metal (e.g., carbon steel, alloy steel, aluminum, or titanium) based on the component’s requirements. Ensure the required steel meets the required chemical composition and quality standards. Baoding Guokun will test the material’s chemical composition before storage. Baoding Guokun has years of experience working in the following grades of carbon steel, alloy steel and stainless steel. We are able to drop forge almost every type and grade of carbon steel material available on the common market, such as 4140(42CrMo4), 8620, 1018, 1035 or C35, 1080, 4340, 1137, etc.
Billet Preparation Cut the raw material into billets of the required size. And heat the billet to the forging temperature (typically 1100°C–1200°C for steel) to make it malleable
Die design and preparation Design the dies (upper and lower) to match the final shape of the component. Dies are typically made from high-strength tool steel and are precision-machined.
Forging Place the heated billet into the lower die. Apply pressure using a hydraulic or mechanical press to force the metal into the die cavity. The metal fills the die, taking the shape of the mold
Flash Formation & Trimming Excess metal, called flash, flows out of the die cavity through small gaps. Remove the flash and excess material using trimming dies or machining
Cooling Allow the forged part to cool slowly (for some materials) or control the cooling rate to achieve desired properties.
Heat Treatment Perform heat treatment processes like normalizing, quenching, and tempering to enhance mechanical properties (e.g., hardness, toughness)
Finishing Machine the forged part to achieve precise dimensions and surface finish. – Apply surface treatments (e.g., sand blasting, coating) if required
