Description

Baoding Guokun Machinery Co., Ltd. & Baoding Guokun Import and Export Trading Co., Ltd. are located in Baoding City, Hebei Province, China. Our sand casting foundry covers an area of 30,000 square meters, housing dedicated workshops for casting, grinding, sandblasting, precision machining, as well as an on-site laboratory and warehouse facilities.
Baoding Guokun is equipped with 4 medium-frequency induction furnaces, 15 automatic shell core machines, an automatic sand casting molding line, 7 CNC machining centers, and 20 CNC lathes. We also maintain a full set of quality inspection equipment for mechanical property testing and chemical composition analysis, including tensile strength testers, hardness testers, metallographic microscopes, spectrometers, ultrasonic flaw detectors, and specialized testing instruments. Before shipment, we will compile quality reports for all inspections and send them to the customer.

What is Sand Casting?

Sand casting is an industrial metal casting process that involves creating molds from sand, into which molten metal is poured. This process is ideal for casting parts of nearly any shape, including large components and those with internal passages. At Baoding Guokun, we produce a wide range of sand castings in materials such as cast iron, ductile iron, gray iron, low-carbon steel, carbon steel, and alloy steel. Our products are widely used in pumps, valves, agricultural machinery, railways, highways, forklifts, farming equipment, mining machinery, automobiles, compressors, medical equipment, food processing machinery, and aerospace applications.

The Sand Casting Process at Baoding Guokun

After professional mold making, our process follows these key steps:
No. Step Details
1 Pattern Creation First, a two-part mold is made to the shape of the desired part, typically from materials like iron, aluminum, or wood. For single or small-batch castings, we prefer wood patterns to help customers save costs. For high-volume production, we use aluminum or iron patterns to extend tool life.
2 Mold Making The two shell halves are assembled and securely clamped to form a complete mold. If cores are required, they are inserted before closing the mold. The assembled mold is then placed in a flask and supported with backing material.
3 Pouring With the mold firmly clamped, molten metal is poured from a ladle into the gating system and into the mold cavity.
4 Cooling Once the mold is filled, the molten metal is allowed to cool and solidify, taking the shape of the casting.
5 Shakeout & Cleaning After the metal has cooled, the mold is broken to remove the casting. It is then trimmed and cleaned to remove excess metal from the gating system and residual sand.
6 Machining The casting is machined to the exact specifications of the drawing.

Disadvantages of Sand Casting

Sand cast parts typically have a rougher surface finish, lower strength, and higher labor costs (when using manual casting). Secondary machining is usually required.
